THE INSTITUTE OF DISCARDED SOUND

Year 3 Semester 2

A 21st Century John Cage Institute, a reaction to the Royal Academy of Music by providing a unique way of composing, reading and listening to experimental sound and enforcing the recycling of broken instruments. Timber, concrete and copper are used throughout the structure and cladding to reference to the link between the Institute and Peto-Place Sound-Gate (Semester 1 Project). Main Functions of the Institute are: The Peto Place Score Performance Studio, The Hall of Discarded Instruments (Workshop), The Suspended Auditorium and The Subterranean Circus of ‘Discarded’ Sounds. The performance studios were located onto the concrete stair and lift structure through drawn viewpoint angles of the Peto-Place Sound-Gate.
